Why this Pledge?

This pledge was initiated by Dr. Mohammad Ali Chaudry during the quarterly meeting of an Interfaith Advisory Council of the NJ Department of Homeland Security and Preparedness (OHSP) held at Drew University in March 2015.

The question was whether interfaith dialogs and related work was making a difference. What is our responsibility as faith leaders when violence rips apart communities.  Are we succeeding in achieving our goals of creating harmony among our diverse communities?

He came to the conclusion that we would know if we are succeeding when we see the day when people begin to confront  in their own inner circles any bigotry and hate toward other groups, be they Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Bahai, Buddhist or people of any faith or no faith at all.

The Stand Up Pledge is now part of the mission of the Muslim Jewish Solidarity Committee which was established in 2014 with joint leadership of Walter Ruby of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding, Dr. Ali Chaudry of the Islamic Society of Basking Ridge and Rabbi Deb Smith of the Congregation Or Ha Lev Jewish Renewal Community of Morris County, New Jersey.

We invite all organizations engaged in interfaith dialogs, building bridges of understanding, creating harmony among diverse groups and communities, and peace building to join us in promoting this pledge. We welcome everyone to support this effort through their networks.  If you have any questions, please write to us via the Contact Us page or feel free to email Dr. Ali Chaudry at machaudry@gmail.com
